War 2 Sees Massive 75 Percent Plunge on Day 5, Struggles to Breach ₹200 Crore Mark
Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, has amassed a total of approximately ₹183 crore in its first five days but flunked the critical Monday test, sliding steeply to just ₹8.5 crore on Day 5—a staggering 75 percent drop from Sunday’s earnings of over ₹32 crore.
Launched on August 14 to coincide with India’s Independence Day long weekend, the film began with a strong though modest opening of ₹52 crore, slightly trailing the opening of the original War (2019). Sunday’s peak collection of ₹32.15 crore was followed by a sharp downturn, reflective of diminishing audience interest and mixed critical reviews. This steep fall significantly dampens the film’s trajectory toward the coveted ₹200 crore domestic milestone, which now seems increasingly elusive. The Day 5 earnings also mark the lowest Monday haul within the YRF Spy Universe franchise to date.
Furthermore, with critics expressing concerns over the film’s screenplay, direction, and visual effects, War 2 is shaping up as the lowest-grossing entry in the Spy Universe, even though it still ranks among the top Hindi releases of 2025. This performance underlines the high stakes and dwindling impact of star power amid growing audience expectations. As War 2 contends with its sluggish start to the second week, its long-term success now depends on whether it can regain momentum in the coming days.
