Air Marshal Suneel Soman PVSM, AVSM, VM. (Retd)

Former Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Air Command, IAF.

Air Marshal Suneel Shripad Soman who hails from Pune has taken over as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Air Command, IAF on 01 Jul 2013. Air Marshal Soman is a graduate of the National Defence Academy. He has excelled in many fields and has gained status on two fighter aircrafts. He served as the Assistant Defence Advisor in Dhaka. Wing Commander Soman has been the Commanding Officer of a Fighter Squadron since November 1996. The task of the unit is to train the fighter pilots of the IAF.

For his outstanding professionalism, exemplary qualities of leadership, sustained hard work, commitment and his involvement, the honourable President has been pleased to award 'Vayu Sena Medal' to Wing Commander Suneel Shripad Soman.

Being a part of the army is not a dream or a passion of many in our country, we live in a country where doctors, engineers are given more preference than protecting our own country. Suneel Shripad Soman being a part of the army, will share his experience to the audience that will not only inspire them about this career path but will also respect the army.
